David sees himself as fortunate that what he’s most passionate about is also what he does for a living. He did his TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) training, receiving his Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University and his massage training through the Brenneke School of Massage. His clinical residency was finished in Shanghai, China, completing shifts in internal medicine, psychiatry and trauma. In pursuit of a deeper level of growth and healing, David embarked on the journey of a second system of Chinese Medicine – Classical Five Element Acupuncture in Portland, OR and San Francisco, CA for an additional three years of study. He has lectured extensively on various topics such as five-element acupuncture, stress management, pain, and more.
David is a Zen Buddhist having practiced in both the Japanese and Korean traditions of Zen and has taught meditation at several venues around Seattle. He’s had the good fortune of training in Tai-Qi and Qigong with such extraordinary teachers as Kim Ivy and Zen Master Ji Bong, while also teaching Qigong at Blue Heron Zen Community and to his patients. He spends much of his time training in Kung-Fu and teaching to kids at Seattle Kajukenbo under Sifu Melinda Johnson. Chinese medicine, Zen practice, and martial arts have been the greatest gifts to come into David’s life. The integration of the three has been an incredible experience, and he possesses a true passion for sharing what he’s learned along the way with those who are interested.
As a personal side-note, David comes from a musical family and enjoys singing, playing guitar, the African drum, and the hammered dulcimer. If there is any time left, he might be out rock-climbing, hiking, reading, taking pictures or traveling (he’s hoping to make it to Japan and the Galapagos Islands in the near future).
